How To Fix Spotify Web Player Won’t Play – Easy Steps

It’s gone are the days of downloading and listening to music offline. This not only took up space on your phone, but also meant you had to rely on a website for your favorite song. Spotify and other online audio streaming services allow you to listen to your favorite songs anytime, anywhere. You don’t have to download songs. Instead, you can just use the app.

Spotify is a major player in the online audio streaming market and is available on many platforms. Spotify also has a web player that allows desktop users to stream their music wherever they are. However, many users reported that the Spotify web player was not working for them.

This could be due to server problems, browser issues, not enabling protected content in your browser, your browser not being updated to allow Spotify files to run, etc. This problem can be caused by many things, but we’ll provide multiple solutions to help you solve the Spotify web player not functioning issue. Let us get right into it.

1. Verify your Windows version

Spotify will not work in Windows 11 “N”. While Windows 11 “N’ may appear to have the same features as the standard Windows 11 OS OS, they are not. Windows 11 “N”, however, does not include media functionality or apps. This could be why Spotify’s web player doesn’t work for you.

This is the solution. You will need to download the Media Feature Pack for Windows N editions by from this website before you can stream music from Spotify in your web browser.

2. Try using incognito mode

We recommend that you switch to incognito mode if the regular mode doesn’t run the Spotify web app. Incognito mode can be useful in this situation as it disables or restricts any extensions you have installed on your browser that could interfere with the Spotify web app’s functionality.

It disables extensions and disables any feature you may have accidentally enabled, which is conflict with Spotify’s web app. To open an incognito window on Chrome, press Ctrl+ Shift +N.

3. Allow protected content

If you receive an error message saying “Playback of protected material is not enabled”, then you will need to adjust a setting in the browser. You won’t be hurt if the error message doesn’t appear.

To fix the Web Player Not Working, here’s how to enable protected content in your Chrome browser.

  1. Click on the 3-dot Menu.
  2. Choose Settings.
  3. Select Security or Privacy from the left pane.
  4. Click here Site settings .
  5. Scroll down to click Protected content ID.
  6. These settings are shown in the image.

Here are the steps to enable protected content in Firefox.

  1. Open the Spotify webplayer website.
  2. Click the Shield icon to the left of your URL bar.
  3. Select Turn off blocking this site.

4. Clear Google Chrome Cache

It is well-known that a corrupt cache, temporary data file or other issue could cause several files to not load properly. This can lead to misbehaving in several applications and even your browser.

To avoid problems like this, it is recommended that you regularly clear your web browser’s cache. These are the steps to clear Google Chrome’s cache files from your desktop.

  1. Google Chrome.
  2. Click on the 3 dots menu to select Settings.
  3. Select Privacy & Security from the left pane.
  4. Click on the Privacy and Security tab. Clear browsing data .
  5. Make sure you check the boxes next Cookies and other site data, and Cached images or files. After you are done, click the Clear data button.

5. Change your Chrome DNS

Most issues you have with websites can be fixed by changing your DNS. Spotify Web may not be working on your desktop browser. A different DNS can help you load the site and its media. Change the DNS settings in Chrome. This is fine and will not cause any speed problems.

  1. Open Chrome Settings.
  2. Click on Privacy and Security.
  3. Click on the Safety option.
  4. Choose Customized DNS. You can either add your own DNS or choose from any of the listed DNS in the dropdown menu.

6. Extensions can be disabled or uninstalled

Browser extensions can be used to simplify web surfing tasks. If you install a problem extension, it may cause problems with your web browser’s functionality.

You can disable extensions, or remove them from your browser to resolve the problem. Once you have removed each extension, you can install them individually to determine which one is the problem.

  1. To open Settings, click on the 3 dots menu icon.
  2. Navigate to Other Tools > Extensions.
  3. To disable extensions, turn off the toggle beside them. You can also hit the Remove button and remove them from your browser.

7. Disconnect multiple devices

One user discovered that Spotify may malfunction if Spotify is used on multiple devices. The Spotify web app will not play the song in its web player.

You can fix this by tweaking the Spotify Connect function. Open the app and choose the web player at the bottom.

8. Reset Settings

Resetting Chrome to the default settings is an option. Resetting Chrome browser to its default settings will remove everything including your startup page and new tab pages, search engine, search engine, pinned Tabs, search engine, search engine, temporary files, disabling all extensions, and clear any temporary files. After resetting, ensure that you accept the changes.

  1. Start the Google Chrome browser.
  2. Click on the 3 dots menu icon.
  3. Choose Settings.
  4. Expand the Advanced Menu and choose Reset.
  5. Select the Restore settings option from the right side.
  6. Click the Reset settings button.

9. Get the latest Chrome browser

Google Chrome and other browsers may sometimes not work as expected due to bugs. It is recommended to keep your browser up-to-date with the most recent version. Follow these steps to do this. We will use Chrome on our computers to show you how to install it. However, you’ll also need to update your browser.

  • Click on the 3-dot icon to navigate to Help > About Google Chrome.
  • The browser will search for the most recent update automatically and ask you to download it if it is available.
